Regulatory reporting
To make energy markets transparent, the EU has imposed reporting requirements on the industry. It has issued regulations on when and how market participants must inform which body of their activities. This is necessary because it prevents market manipulation and insider trading.
But it’s also complicated, because the regulations are detailed and correspondingly time-consuming to comply with. On top of that, there are several of them, e.g. REMIT or EMIR. In addition, there are always new regulations, such as the upcoming CSRD reporting requirement. There are also reporting requirements from the German Federal Network Agency, e.g. Redispatch 2.0.
The bureaucratic effort involved, which does not bring much benefit to market participants, but also the implementation deadlines, make it not only complicated, but extra complicated.
